From Angels to Armies: He’s Got the Last Word

Jesus has the last word on everything and everyone, from angels to armies.  He’s standing right along side God, and what He says goes.  I Peter 3:21 (The Message)

I’m an observer of people.  Not in a creepy, stalker type of way, but in a sociologist-researcher sort of way.  That’s why I’ve spent my professional life teaching, studying, and practicing the social sciences.  In my non-professional spare time, I reflect a lot.  Here are some of the current reflections swimming around my brain as of late.

  • The world is quickly changing.  When I was student teaching Geography in the fall of 1989, the Europe I was teaching was changing daily.  Within weeks, history books were altered and lesson plans were obsolete from evening to morning.  We learned while watching human behavior change the face of then communistic Europe.  The same is happening today, from Japan, to Yemen, to Libya.
  • Societal norms are quickly changing.  From Abercrombie’s push-up bikini tops for 7-year-olds to toddler time spent video gaming instead of free play or having books read to them,  raising kids just ain’t like it used to be.  I could list more, but you all know them.  I don’t need to point them out.
  • People are becoming isolated, desperate, and increasingly violent.  From Tuscon to Martinsville, from cyberbullying to Facebook depression (yes, I just read a study on this today), people are connected more than ever, but less connected with the human spirit.
Now, I could list a few more discouraging-type-examples of current observations, but the goal of these words is to encourage rather than (dis)courage.  Which brings me back to the verse from I Peter 3:21.
 Jesus has the last word,
From angels to armies.
He knows what is going on in the world, in communities, in homes, inside our hearts.
 He’s in control.
Amidst the discouraging news I come across each day,
whether through media or face to face contact,
 I don’t fear,
but take hope in the King of Creation,
 the Lord of Lords.

Whatever the lot, He has taught me to say.

It is well, it is well with my soul.

(Maybe you needed that today)

    Come, Lord Jesus.

  1. My daily walk in His grace!

My husband is big on conspiracy theories and end times and it excites him. It makes me anxious so its always calming to be reminded that there is a bigger picture and that God is in control, and that He knows whats going on. We have to trust in the bigger picture but walk daily. Thanks for the reminder. TKT

I'd love to hear from you.
